Three years ago Soothsayers played a hypnotic set when they played their first-ever show in Germany at Freedom Sounds. In Britain and beyond, they are already a very established act having played Rototom Festival (Spain) ,The North Sea Jazz Festival , Dhaka World Music Festival, London Jazz Festival, Glastonbury and Barbados World Music Festival.
Their sound, drawing inspiration from Roots Reggae, Dub, Soul, Afrobeat, Jazz and Funk is impossible to pin down easily – which makes them such a great band for Freedom Sounds. Since playing here last, Soothsayers have signed to leading UK label Wah Wah 45s and released a new EP (“Speak To My Soul”) in June. More singles will be released in the run-up to the festival, followed by a new album later in 2018.
In addition to introducing their new (and older) songs, the band will set up a workshop with a group of school students from London and Cologne. Together they will rehearse a set of ska and reggae songs which they will perform together on stage, opening the festival Saturday. Needless to say that we’re pretty excited about this and so are the students. Get ready for the young generation!
The Guardian: **** “ One of the finest slices of a Anglo Caribbean fusion since The Specials in their prime……artfully mixing in funk and Afrobeat to their deep dub“
Clash Magazine: „a truly intoxicating dub experience… featuring a galaxy of reggae and dub stars….like the best jambalaya it’s hot and spicy and will leave you grinning from ear to ear“
